this date. Friday-Tuesday, August 8-12.-Matriculation Examinations, in Harmon Gymnasium, Berkeley, for the Academic Colleges, Hastings College of the Law, and the Medical Department. Application for examination permits must be made to the Recorder of the Faculties not later than August 7; for permits to be sent by mail, not later than August 1. Filing of applications for admission to graduate and to special standing.

Wednesday and Thursday, August 13 and 14.-Professors and Instructors will keep office-hours for consultation with students and applicants.

Thursday, August 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.-Registration
Day. At the Gymnasium: Registration of graduate and upper-
class students for courses of the first half-year. Students who
elect courses beginning on Thursday afternoon must register
before 1:00 o'clock p.m. Registration of upper-class students
after Thursday will be permitted only in cases where the students
have been granted leave of absence by the proper Faculty or
Dean. All officers of instruction will keep Office Hours on the
morning of Registration Day, from 9:30 until 12:00; and on the
afternoon of that day, at such times as they may announce.
Thursday, August 14, 1:00 p.m.-Instruction in upper classes begins.
Students must obtain the Recorder's Certificate of Registration
in time to appear for enrollment by the instructor at the first
meeting in each of the courses.

Monday, August 18.-Organization of Instruction for Freshmen.
8:30-4:30, in the Gymnasium: Admission cards issued to intrants.
11:15 a.m., in the Gymnasium: Intrants assemble to meet the
President, the Deans, and the Freshman instructors and advisers.
12:00-4:30, in the Gymnasium: Intrants file their registration cards
for the first half-year.

8:30 p.m., in the Gymnasium: University rally, to welcome the
Freshmen.

Before filing their registration cards for the first half-year, intrants should provide themselves with the following publications: (1) REGISTER for 1901-02, (2) ANNOUNCEMENT OF COURSES [for sale by Students' Coöperative Society, ten cents; will be mailed by the Recorder on receipt of ten cents in stamps], (3) SCHEDULE OF EXERCISES, (4) CIRCULAR OF INSTRUCTIONS TO FRESHMEN, (5) REGISTRATION CARD. Intrants should consult their advisers before registering.
