C. H. Claiborne has resigned as trainmaster of the Southwestern division, Frisco system.

J. F. Wallace has been appointed general manager of the Illinois Central railroad, with offices at Chicago.

George Ott has been appointed trainmaster of the Montana division of the Northern Pacific, with headquarters at Livingston.

J. H. Elliott has been appointed superintendent of terminals, "Frisco System," St. Louis, Mo. Headquarters at Chouteau Ave.

Brother C. C. Mills has been appointed trainmaster of the Southwestern division, Frisco system, with headquarters at Sapulpa, I. T.

E. T. Needham has been appointed acting master mechanic of the Wabash shops at Fort Wayne, Ind., to succeed M. R. Coutant, resigned.

Joseph H. Howe has been appointed supervisor of bridges and buildings of the Union Pacific at Omaha, Neb., to succeed J. Lanktree, resigned.

J. T. Flynn, formerly general superintendent of the White & Black River Valley, has been appointed auditor of the Union Railway Company of Memphis, Tenn.

H. H. Brown, formerly trainmaster Western division, Frisco system, has been transferred to the Eastern division, same position, with headquarters at Springfield, Mo.

W. O. Johnson, heretofore general foreman, has been appointed master mechanic of the Iowa Central, with headquarters at Marshalltown, Ia., to succeed George D. Brooke.

C. S. Leach has been appointed traveling freight agent of the Nashville Chattanooga & St. Louis, with headquarters at Saint Louis, Mo., to succeed A. E. Rust, resigned.

S. P. Weller. master mechanic of the Missouri Pacific at Sedalia, Mo., has been transferred to De Soto, Mo., vice A. Harrity, who succeeds A. S. Grant as master mechanic at Baring Cross, Ark. Mr. Grant is transferred to Sedalia, Mo.

Brother W. E. Page of Division 195, Tierra Blanco, State of Vera Cruz, Mexico, has been appointed trainmaster for the entire system of the Ferrocarrie de Vera Cruz al Pacific railway.

Brother A. C. Green, formerly joint general yardmaster M. K. & T. and S. P. at Shreveport, La., has been appointed general yardmaster and general foreman of T. P. at Shreveport, La. Effective September 8th.

Emmet A. Gould has resigned as superintendent of the eastern division of the Wabash at Peru, Ind., to accept the position of general superintendent of the Missouri Pacific, with headquarters at Saint Louis.

T. J. Norton, assistant solicitor of the coast lines of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe at Los Angeles, Cal., has been appointed general attorney of the Santa Fe, Prescott & Phoenix, to succeed W. C. Campbell, who has resigned to engage in the practice of law at Los Angeles.

William Cotter has been promoted from general superintendent of the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern railway to the position of manager of the Missouri Pacific railway, the St. Louis Iron Mountain Southern railway, and their leased, operated and independent lines. In this position Mr. Cotter has charge of operation. The office of manager is a new one. Headquarters at St. Louis.

J. D. Sturdivant, supervisor of bridges and buildings of the Mississippi division of the Illinois Central at Water Valley, Miss., has been appointed roadmaster of the Vicksburg division of the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley, with headquarters at Vicksburg, Miss., to succeed John Mulvoy, resigned. to accept a position with the Mobile & Ohio.

It is officially announced that Stuart A. Allen, having resigned the position of general southern agent of the Hoosac Tunnel Fast Freight Line, in charge of Cincinnati and Memphis agencies, to accept service elsewhere, the southern territory will be divided. E. J. Wilson will have charge of Cincinnati territory, with title of contracting agent.

Although the Post Check Currency bill failed of passage at the last session of Congress, there seems to be no doubt that the measure can succeed in the coming winter if its advocates throughout the country make their desire known to their Congressmen. The plan of having United States money so printed that the bills of small denominations can be converted into checks payable to order at any postoffice is no doubt familiar to most of the people by this time, as it has been described with frequency and in detail. The convenience which it would afford, the losses which it would save to the multitude who have occasion

so entirely simple, that the wonder is that it was not devised and adopted long ago. Almost every newspaper in the country has commented upon it, and we do not recall one that has found reason for opposing it. Congress should at the coming session pass the bill and give the business public the benefit of a really valuable idea.-Courier, Buffalo, N. Y.

The members of the B. L. E., B. L. F., O. R. C. and B. R. T. have arranged for union meeting to be held at Springfield, Mass., November 1st, 2d and 3d. At this time the plan is to make Saturday, November 1st, reception day, and to hold meetings of the several organizations that evening. On Sunday afternoon a public meeting will be held at which representatives of the organizations and prominent men will deliver addresses. In the evening a joint meeting of the membership is proposed. Monday will be given over to sociability and in the evening a grand ball will close the event. All members of the Orders are invited to attend the membership meetings and all interested, especially railway employes, are invited to the public meetings.
