MEMORANDA.

ON 1st April, 1922, The Judges' Retirement Act of 1921 and The Supreme Court Act of 1921 were brought into operation. Under the former Act Sir Pope Cooper (Chief Justice), Mr. Justice Real (Senior Puisne Judge), and Mr. Justice Chubb ceased to hold office. Under the latter Act, whereby the District Court was abolished and every Judge of District Courts ceased to be such and became a Judge of the Supreme Court, Mr. Justice Macnaughton (a Judge of District Courts and a Judge of the Court of Industrial Arbitration) and Judges Jameson and O'Sullivan (Judges of District Courts) became Judges of the Supreme Court.

To fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Sir Pope Cooper, Mr. Justice McCawley (a Judge of the Supreme Court and President of the Court of Industrial Arbitration) was appointed Chief Justice, and Mr. Justice Shand (formerly Northern Judge) and Mr. Justice Lukin (formerly Central Judge) took the places of Mr. Justice Real and Mr. Justice Chubb as Judges sitting in Brisbane; Mr. Justice Jameson was appointed Central Judge in place of Mr. Justice Lukin; and the Hon. J. W. Blair, Barrister-at-Law, was appointed: Northern Judge to fill the vacancy caused by the transfer of Mr. Justice Shand.

Mr. Justice O'Sullivan acts also as a Judge of the Court of Industrial Arbitration and as Chairman of the Central Sugar Cane Prices Board.
