The Cornell Athletic Association is an independent organization incorporated under the laws of the State of New York. Its board of trustees is composed of seven representatives from the Trustees, Alumni, and Faculty of the University, who, together with eight students representing officially the different branches of athletics, constitute the Athletic Council. The Association owns Percy Field, the boats and boat houses, a steam-launch and other athletic equipment. The Athletic Council is charged with the general management of the athletic interests of the University.
