XIV. METEOROLOGICAL TABLES FOR MILWAUKEE AND GREEN LAKE, WISCONSIN.

Ar Milwaukee the mean temperature varies but little from the general average of several years; but the thermometer has not been as low nor as high as usual. The same remark is applicable to the density of the air, as indicated by the barometer. Less than the usual quantity of rain has fallen; and, as more than one third was in one month, the remainder of the year has been unusually dry.

Ice left the Milwaukee river March the 12th, and it was again closed December the 6th. At Green Lake the Maximum was 93°, July 26th, and the Minimum 140, February 4th.

General Zachary Taylor, of Louisiana, having been elected by a majority of thirty-six of the electoral votes, was, on the 4th of March, 1849, inaugurated President of the United States, and died on the 9th of July, 1850. In consequence of this event, the duties of the office have devolved on Millard Fillmore, of New York, who had been elected by the same majority VicePresident, in accordance with the provision of the Constitution of the United States, which says, "In case of the removal of the President from office, or of his death, resignation, or inability to discharge the powers and duties of said office, the same shall devolve on the Vice-President."
