WHEREAS it is expedient, in order to lessen the expense

of

the management and maintenance of Turnpike Roads in that part of Great Britain called England, that power should be given to unite in one Trust several of such Turnpike Roads; BE it therefore Enacted, by The QUEEN's most Excellent MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT it shall be lawful for the Lord High Treasurer or the Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury for the time being, or any Three or more of them, by any writing under their hands, to appoint any competent person or persons, not being fewer than Three nor more than Six in number, to be a Commissioner or Commissioners for carrying this Act into execution; and every person or persons who shall be so appointed is and are hereby vested with the same powers and authorities as if he or they had been named in this present Act, and had been thereby appointed a Commissioner or Commissioners for carrying this Act into execution.

And be it Enacted, That it shall be lawful for the said Commissioners to divide the several Turnpike Roads throughout England into 20 separate Unions, and by order to declare that any such Union shall consist of such and so many and such part or parts of the said Turnpike Roads as the said Commissioners shall think fit.

And be it Enacted, That it shall be lawful for the said Commissioners from time to time, as they may see fit, by order, to declare any Union of Turnpike Roads to be dissolved, or any Turnpike Road or Turnpike Roads, or any part or parts of any Turnpike Road or Turnpike Roads, specifying the same, to be separated from or added to any such Union, and, as the case may be, such Union shall thereupon be dissolved, or such Turnpike Road or Turnpike Roads, or part or parts of any Turnpike Road or Turnpike Roads, shall thereupon be and thereupon separated from or added to such Union accordingly; and the said Commissioners shall in every such case frame and make such Orders 10 and Regulations as they may think fit for adapting the constitution and management of every such Union, from or to which there shall be such separation or addition as aforesaid to the altered state of the same; and every such Union shall, after any such alteration, be constituted, managed and governed as if the same had been originally 15 formed in such altered state; and in case any such Union shall be wholly or partially dissolved as aforesaid, then the Turnpike Road or Turnpike Roads, or part or parts of any Turnpike Road or Turnpike Roads, constituting, or in case of partial dissolution, separated from any such Union, shall thenceforth be subject to be re-united or united 20 with other Turnpike Roads, or otherwise dealt with, according to the provisions of this Act, as the said Commissioners shall think fit.

And be it Enacted, That a copy of the said Order for any such Union, or for the dissolution or alteration of any such Union as aforesaid, shall be sent to the Clerk of each Turnpike Road to which, or to 25 any part whereof, such Order shall apply, and also to the Clerk of the Peace of each county, riding, division, district or liberty in which any of such Turnpike Roads may be situate; and the said Clerk of the Peace shall and is hereby required, upon the receipt of such Order, to file the same with the records of such county, riding, division, district or liberty.

And be it Enacted, That after any such Union shall have been ordered by the said Commissioners, all and every Acts and Act of Parliament now in force relating to the Turnpike Roads, or parts of Turnpike Roads comprised therein, or any of them, which Acts are 35 hereinafter designated as "Local Acts," shall continue to be in force (except as hereinafter mentioned, and as to all such matters as are otherwise provided for by this Act) in the same way as if the same were herein re-enacted, without any limit in time to the duration of such Act.

And be it Enacted, That the powers and authorities in this Act contained, as to the making of Orders and Regulations for and conUnions of Turnpike Roads, shall and may be used and exercised, cerning
