J. L., Rochester, N. Y.-One of the best and latest German grammars of the German language, both etymological and historical, is F. Blatz's "Neuhochdeutsche Grammatik." vols. half morocco. Price $6.30. An excellent little book, lately published, which will doubtless be of interest and value to you, is "Wie pflegt das deutsche Volk seine teure Muttersprache und wie kann die Schule diese Arbeit fördern helfen?" By G. J. Knabe. Price, in paper, 50 cents; in cloth binding 70 cents. It contains a series of essays and instructive remarks about the study and history of the German language, and is a very useful help for all in terested in the German language.

G. H. B., Erie, Pa.-The apparent inconsequence in spelling Mrs. Orzeszkowa's name with an "a" at the end and her husband's name Orzeszko without, in our review of "Meir Ezofowitch" in the August number, is correct. The Poles thus make a distinction of the sex by changing the ending of the name; e. g. Mr. Potocki and Mrs. or Miss Potocka.

R. S., Albany, N. Y.-The best, in fact, the only guide to the Mediterranean is Murray's, in two volumes. Price $7.60. Baedecker has no one

guide book taking in all these countries; you would have to get several volumes. A useful little book, describing just that trip, made by sev eral steamship lines in winter, was published about two years ago under the title "The Mediterranean Trip," a short guide to the principal shores of the Western Mediterranean and the Levant, with 20 illustrations and maps. 16mo. cloth. Price $1.15. By mail $1.23. This is most likely just what you want. If, as we surmise from your name, you read German, we can recommend you an excellent German book which has just been published under the title "Eine moderne Kreuzfahrt" von Dr. Karillon. Illustrated. 8vo. cloth. Price

81.80. by mail $1.95. It is a graphic, entertaining and interesting description of a trip from Germany through Italy, Greece, the Holy Land and Egypt. It is one of the most charming books of travel that we have come across in a long time, and is not only useful to anyone intending to make the trip, but also an interesting souvenir to all who have been there, and equally interesting to those who were not so lucky, but enjoy making the trip mentally under the guidance of such an interesting cicerone as Dr. Karillon. The book deserves to be widely recommended for any public and private library, where German books find a place.

"It is high time that an adequately illustrated edition of this famous book for the young was offered to the public. The publishers have chosen wisely in selecting as an illustrator Mr. H. C. Christy. His art is a very delicate one and peculiarly adapted to the depicting of the young. The book is large and thoroughly well made, and ought to become widely popular as a presentation book for the young."
