The re-weighing of Goods by the Officers previously to their removal coastwise under bond is dispensed with; and on parties making appli cation to the proper officers to remove Goods coastwise, under bond, without the same being first re-weighed; the officers, on satisfying themselves that the packages are in the state in which they were imported, may permit their removal without being re-weighed, the usual notice being transmitted to the proper officers at the port of destination, who are to take care that the goods be re-weighed on landing (except in cases provided for by the Order of the 18 March, 18261), and if any deficiency be found between such re-weights and the original landing weights, the See Note under East India Goods, in page 63, as to privilege of moving such Goods from ports privileged to trade with India, to the Port of Londonderry. † See also New Ross. Increase in weight of cer tain articles in bond. Upon an application from Mr. Alfred Latham, requesting to be relieved from payment of the duty upon an increase of weight on a quantity of Cocoa removed to the port of London from Dublin, under bond;-It was ordered, that the practice at present observed, under the authority of the Board's Orders of the 17th Oct. 18264, be adopted generally in cases of Coffee, Cocoa, and other articles removed coastwise, under the provisions of the Warehousing Act; provided the quantity in each case is small, and that there is no reason to suspect fraud or to apprehend mistake. Min. Com. Cus. 29 Oct. 1832. The regulations of this Minute are extended to the article of Tea. Min. Com. Cus. 14 March, 1835. 66 Bonded Goods shipped coastwise, and lost at sea, penalty in bond not to be enforced. On an application of Messrs. Wylam and Harle, praying to be relieved from payment of duty on a quantity of Rum lost on its removal under bond coastwise from London to Newcastle, and a reference having been made to the Attorney and Solicitor-General on the following point, viz., " Whether warehoused Goods, shipped coastwise, and lost at sea on the voyage, are to be considered as accounted for to the satisfaction of the Commissioners of Customs," they have given it as their opinion, “That such Goods are satisfactorily accounted for, and that the bond cannot be enforced." The Lords of the Treasury, in consequence thereof, were pleased to direct, that the duties on the deficiencies in question should be remitted.-Treas. Order, 24 Feb. 1832. By a subsequent Order, dated the 12th May, 1832, their Lordships have declared that it was not their intention to afford relief in cases of this description indefinitely, but only in those cases which, at the time the opinion of the Attorney and Solicitor-General was required on the subject, were peuding before their Lordships. Rates for Warehouse Rent on goods deposited in the King's Warehouses at the several out-ports, viz.— On large cases and vats containing Toys, or other merchandize, and packages of wine‡, and other liquids, per week, 6d. each. Packages of baggage, small packages of presents, viz. boxes, kegs, jars, &c. per week, 2d. each. The indulgence granted by this Order is only to extend to the following articles : Ashes, Pot, Pearl, Soap, Wood, and Weed; Barilla in packages; Bristles ; Copperas, Green, White, and Blue; Lead, Black, Red, and White; Madder and Madder Roots; Ochre, Orchelia ; Pitch; Shumac; Tallow; Tar; Turpentine, & Cotton Wool. And if any such goods, so removed, shall remain in warehouse at the port of destination, without payment of duty, for one year from the date of removal, they are to be re-weighed at the expense of the parties to whom they may belong, and the duty on any deficiency between such re-weights and the original landing weights paid thereon.
