As linens of the same breadth and fineness of thread differ in value according to the closeness of the texture, and the value of the flax from which the Linen is made, a difficulty may arise in ascertaining the proper value thereof for the duty; the officers are in all cases of the entry of foreign Linen at value, to obtain, if practicable, the opinion. of some person experienced in the trade, so as to ascertain the current value of the goods, in order that the duty may be properly received thereon. Min. Com. Cus., 31 Dec. 1825.

In entering "manufactures of Linen" at this rate of duty, the merchant must state in his entry, "that the number of threads in the inch of warp cannot be ascertained."-ED.

Madders and Madder Roots, the produce of Europe, may not be
imported into the United Kingdom, to be used therein, except in
British Ships, or in Ships of the country of which they are the
produce, or in Ships of the country from which they are im-
ported, on forfeiture of the same and 1007, by the Master of the
Ship.-3 and 4 W. IV., c. 54. § 2 and 22.

Honduras, in a British Ship, cleared out from the port
of Belize, and Mahogany imported direct from the

housed as having been so cleared and imported, and
which shall be exported from the warehouse, and
imported direct into the United Kingdom, provided
it shall appear in the proper clearance of the Ship,
importing the same into the United Kingdom, that
such Mahogany had been so warehoused and exported
from the warehouse as aforesaid*, the ton...
The duty on Mahogany, when taken out of the warehouse for
home use, shall be charged on the weight actually delivered.—
