Michel, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 26, 1890. He attended a private school in St. Paul, and subsequently St. John's University, Collegeville, Minnesota, where he completed the high school, college, and seminary courses. He there received the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1909, Bachelor of Philosophy in 1912, and Master of Arts in 1913. He entered the Order of St. Benedict in the summer of 1910 and was ordained to the priesthood in the spring of 1916. From 1916 to 1918 he attended the Catholic University of America, Washington, D. C., taking courses in criticism, history of literature, history of philosophy, and general linguistics. During the summer sessions he attended courses at Columbia University, New York City. |
