Capitol and H streets. It is the largest printing office in the country.

The Navy Yard (No. 20), now an extensive gun factory, is at the foot of 8th street east, the terminus of the avenue street railway.

Just north of the Navy Yard on 8th street are the buildings of the Marine Barracks (No. 21).

The Arsenal, or Washington Barracks (No. 19), is at the foot of 4% street.

East of the Navy Yard is the Congressional cemetery (No. 37), and to the north is the jail (No. 42), where Guiteau was hanged.

Kendall Green is the site of the National Deaf and Dumb College, and is located at the head of 7th street east.

The Naval Observatory (No. 46) is located in grounds north of Georgetown.

The United States signal office is at the corner of 24th and M streets northwest.

The statues of bronze and marble scattered throughout the city are, as

a

rule, distinguished for artistic merit. In addition to those already mentioned are the following:

The Soldiers' Home is located north of the city, and can be reached by the Brightwood electric railroad via the 9th and 7th street railroads.

The Columbian University building is at the cor. of 15th and H sts. Georgetown College is in Georgetown, at the end of the F st. railroad. Howard University is at the head of 7th street.

Wayland Seminary is near the head of 16th street.

The Catholic University is at the terminus of the Eckington railroad.

The property of the American University can be reached by the Georgetown and Tenleytown railroad.

At the intersection of Connecticut avenue extended and Woodley road is the site of the P. E. Cathedral foundation, on the line of the Capital Traction street railroad.

Looking across the Eastern branch from the barracks can be seen the spacious buildings of St. Elizabeth Hospital for the Insane, a government institution. To reach St. Elizabeth's, visitors have to go to Anacostia, by way of the Anacostia bridge.

The Zoological Park is located near the northern boundary of the city, and can be reached via the

BAPTIST.

The general places of interest to visitors outside the District limits are the National cemetery at Arlington, which can be reached by taking cars to Georgetown, then crossing the free bridge, and Mount Vernon, the home of Washington, which is fifteen miles down the Potomac.

There is a national cemetery on 7th street road, near old Fort Stevens, and known as Battle cemetery, and another adjoining the Soldiers' Home grounds.
