Stran 11 - A standard unit for measuring the quantity of heat energy equal to the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 pound of water by 1 degree Fahrenheit.
Stran 3-17 - Factor means the total heating output of a heat pump during its normal annual usage period for heating, in Btu, divided by the total electric energy input during the same period, in watt-hours.
Stran 2 - The unit of measurement of the water vapor permeance of a material. Value of one perm is equal to one grain of water vapor per square foot per hour per inch of mercury vapor pressure difference.
Stran 6 - The Alliance to Save Energy is a nonprofit coalition of business, government, environmental, and consumer leaders dedicated to increasing the efficiency of energy use.
Stran 4 - Useful Life The period of time over which a building or building system continues to generate benefits or savings.
Stran 2-7 - R-values that rate their ability to resist heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the ability to insulate.
Stran 12 - ... a unit, based upon temperature difference and time, used in estimating fuel consumption and specifying nominal heating load of a building in winter. For any one day, when the mean temperature is less than 65° F, there exist as many degree days as there are Fahrenheit degrees difference in temperature between the mean temperature for the day and 65° F.
Stran 6 - Economy (ACE3) is a private, nonprofit organization that gathers, evaluates, and disseminates information to stimulate greater energy efficiency.
Stran 14 - Eye on Energy: Rehab for All Seasons" videotape on energy efficiency in housing and its companion guide, prepared by the US Department of Energy and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, are useful references. Although "Eye on Energy" focuses on houses, it contains a great deal of information that applies equally to multi-family housing. See Appendix B for information about obtaining "Eye On Energy" and other resources that may assist you with your rehabilitation project.
