MEXICAN LEGATION,

Washington, December 11, 1837. SIR: In the late annual message of his excellency the President of the United States to Congress, there occurs the following paragraph:

"I regret, therefore, the more deeply to have found in the recent communications of that Government [the Mexican] so little reason to hope that any future efforts of mine for the accomplishment of those desirable objects would be successful."

Aware that, after so decided an expression of the feelings of the Executive, my presence can be of no practical utility in Washington, I beg leave to inform you that I am about to return to the bosom of my family in New Orleans, where any communications can reach me with very little delay. Availing myself of the present opportunity of renewing to the honorable Secretary of State the assurances of my personal consideration and esteem, I have the honor to subscribe myself his most obedient humble servant,

FRANC. PIZARRO MARTINEZ.
