Treaty of Marriage between Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal of England and His Serene Highness the Hereditary Prince of Wirtemberg. Signed at London, the 3d day of May 1797.

In the name of Almighty God!

E it known unto all men by these presents, that whereas His most sacred Majesty George the Third, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Lunenburgh, Arch-Treasurer and Prince Elector of the Holy Roman Empire, &c. on one part, and the Serene and Powerful Princes Frederick Eugene, Reigning Duke of Wirtemberg, and Frederick William, Hereditary Prince of Wirtemberg, on the other, have judged it proper, as well for the strengthening of that friendship which has so long subsisted between the Crown of Great Britain and the House of Wirtemberg, as for the good of the Protestant Religion, to contract a more strict alliance between the two families, by celebrating, with the consent of the parties interested, a Marriage between the most High and Illustrious Princess Charlotta Augusta Matilda, eldest Daughter of the said King of Great Britain, and the said Serene Prince Frederick William, Hereditary Prince of Wirtemberg: in order therefore to attain so desirable an end, and to treat, conclude and confirm the Articles of the said Marriage, His Majesty, as well as their

Serene Highnesses, have named and authorized mutually, viz. the King of Great Britain on his part, his right, trusty, and well-beloved Councillors, the most Reverend Father in God, John, Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate and Metropolitan of all England; Alexander Lord Loughborough Baron Loughborough, His Chancellor of Great Britain; John Earl of Chatham, Knight of the most Noble Order of the Garter, and President of His Privy Council; William Duke of Portland, Knight of the most Noble Order of the Garter, and one of His Principal Secretaries of State; William Wyndham, Baron Grenville of Wotton, another of His Principal Secretaries of State; the Right Honourable Henry Dundas, the other of His Principal Secretaries of State; and the Right Honourable William Pitt, First Lord of the Treasury, Chancellor and Under Treasurer of His Exchequer and the said Serene Princes Frederick Eugene, Reigning Duke of Wirtemberg, and Frederick William, Hereditary Prince of Wirtemberg, have, on their part, named the Baron Emanuel de Rieger, Privy Councillor of the said Serene Reigning Duke of Wirtemberg, and His Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Court of His said Majesty: who, by virtue of their respective full powers, which they have mutually communicated and exchanged, and of which copies are inserted at the end of this Treaty, have concluded and agreed upon the following Articles viz:
