AN ACT GRANTING A HIGHWAY EASEMENT TO THE
TOWN OF NARRAGANSETT ACROSS THE COMMON
LOT BELONGING TO THE STATE IN SAID TOWN.

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. For the purpose of enabling the town of Narragansett to lay out and establish a much needed highway across the shore and marsh lands between the old Point Judith road and the breechway, connecting Point Judith pond with the ocean, a highway easement, not to exceed fifty feet in width, is hereby granted to the said town of Narragansett in, over, and upon the shore and marsh land belonging to the state of Rhode Island, and situated in said town of Narragansett, and known as the "Common Lot," the location of said highway easement to be in accordance with a plan entitled: "Town of Narragansett, New Highway from Old Point Judith Road to Breechway, laid out by Thomas G. Hazard Jr., Alphonso Congdon and Rubin G. Burdick, Committee. Scale 1′′ 200′. January 31, 1920. T. G. Hazard, Jr., Surveyor," which said plat is on file in the office of the town clerk in said town of Narragansett; and the state of Rhode Island hereby waives all claims for damages in consequence of. the layout and establishment of said highway across said common lot, as aforesaid.

SEC. 2. This act shall take effect upon the filing of a copy of said plat with the general treasurer and upon the recording of a certified copy of this act in the office of the town clerk in the said town of Narragansett.

AN ACT EMPOWERING THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF NARRAGANSETT TO CANCEL CERTAIN TAXES.
It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. The collector of taxes of the town of Narragansett shall, on or before the thirty-first day of December in each year, submit a statement in writing to the town council of said town, which said statement shall recite the names of all persons appearing on the books or records of said collector against whom an assessment on personal property shall have been made and which remains unpaid, together with the amounts due from such persons. The town council shall make an investigation of every person whose name appears on such list and if it appears to the town council that the tax assessed against such persons is not collectible by reason of (a) mistake in assessment, (b) death or removal from the state of the person against whom the assessment shall have been made and the existence of no property within the state which may be seized and sold to pay the tax due to the town, (c) illegal assessment, (d) no property owned by the person assessed at the time of the assessment, the town council shall have power to cancel and revoke such assessments and shall give notice of such action to the collector of taxes of said town and said collector shall remove the names of the persons whose

taxes have been so cancelled from the list of collectible taxes; and all liability and obligations of said collector under the provisions of chapter 62 of the general laws, or any other law, general or special, with reference to the duty of said collector to collect taxes due from such persons, shall end and terminate, and the collector of taxes of said town, and the sureties on his bond shall be deemed to be discharged of liability to the amount thus cancelled and revoked.

AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE TOWN OF NEW SHOREHAM
TO ISSUE BONDS FOR THE PURPOSE OF BUILDING A
CENTRAL SCHOOLHOUSE.

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. The town of New Shoreham is hereby authorized and empowered to issue bonds under its central school- corporate name and seal, in addition to the bonds heretofore authorized, to an amount not exceeding forty thousand dollars. Said bonds shall be of a denomination not less than one hundred dollars, nor more than five thousand dollars each; shall bear interest at a rate not exceeding five per centum per annum, payable semi-annually, and the principal and interest thereof shall be payable in gold coin of the United States of America of the present standard of weight and fineness. Said bonds shall become due and payable in not to exceed twenty years from the date of their issue, and shall be obligatory upon the said town in the same manner and to the same extent as

other debts lawfully contracted by said town. All monies raised under the authority hereof shall be used exclusively for the purpose of building and equipping a central schoolhouse in said town.

SEC. 2. If the said bonds are issued in serial form, the said town shall appropriate annually, until said bonds are paid in full, a sum sufficient to pay the interest upon the bonds issued under the authority of this act, and in addition thereto a sum sufficient to pay the principal of the bonds maturing each year; but if the said bonds are otherwise issued, the said town shall appropriate annually, until said bonds are paid in full, a sum sufficient to pay the interest upon the bonds issued under the authority of this act, and in addition thereto a sum to be placed as a sinking fund sufficient for the redemption of the bonds issued under the authority of this act when and as the same become due and payable. arising from the sale of said bonds, less the cost of preparing, issuing and marketing them, shall be applied, in case of serial bonds, to the first bond or bonds to mature, and in the case of sinking fund issue, shall be placed to the credit of said sinking fund. All obligations of said town which may be created under the authority of this act shall be excepted from the operation of section 22 of chapter 47 of the general laws.

SEC. 5. This act shall take effect upon its passage.

CHAPTER 517.

AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF NEWPORT TO ISSUE
BONDS TO THE AMOUNT OF THREE HUNDRED AND
SEVENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS, FOR THE PUR-
POSE OF LAYING NEW PAVEMENTS ON BROADWAY
AND BELLEVUE AVENUE, IN SAID CITY.

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. The city of Newport is hereby authorized and empowered, from time to time, in addition to the bonds heretofore authorized, to hire not exceeding three hundred and seventy-five thousand dollars and to issue its bonds therefor. Said bonds shall be issued by the board of aldermen of said city, as, and when, required.

The proceeds derived from the sale of said bonds shall be used for the purpose of laying a new permanent pavement in Broadway, from Lake's corner to One Mile corner, consisting of New Hampshire granite blocks in track area, with compressed concrete pavement on each side, including new curb; reset old curb, repairing and building new catchbasins and eyes; also laying a new compressed concrete pavement in Bellevue avenue, from Touro
