ALGE.

Among Diatom

The Algæ have received no attention so far as specific determination is concerned. In the collection of material for class use in the laboratory it has been found that quite a large number of genera are represented, some of them by a number of species. these Spirogyra, Zygnema and Vaucheria may be named. acea are everywhere but the Desmidiacea are not so well represented. Among the larger forms the two following are conspicuous in the ponds at the city springs :

Chara fœtida, A. Br.

It forms a dense growth over the bottom of the ponds, in places reaching a foot or more in height.

Adherent to stones in running water.

Chara sp.

A rather unusual Chara was collected in a pool in the mouth of an extinct geyser pan on Warm Spring Creek. It is in the hands of Mr. J. W. Blankinship for determination; August 9, 1894 (No. 796).
