Stran 72 - But in what manner was it formed Î 1 believe that the limestone was precipitated in the bottom of a lake, which was filled with hot springs, much as the calcareous matter is laid, down in the bottom of the ocean at the present time. Indeed, portions of the rock do not differ materially from the recent limestones now forming in the vicinity of the West India Islands.
