* Students should consult "Special Regulations No. 2, G. 0. 26, W. D. 1916, Appointment of Officers of Corps of Engineers, 1917.” Candidates must have a knowledge of elementary French or German or Spanish. COLLEGE OF CHEMISTRY

Matriculation. The requirement is Group II, including subject 15a2 or 1562.

Electives. The total number of units required for graduation is 136. Of the elective units, 35 must be approved electives in chemistry or allied subjects; the remainder may be free electives. Study-lists must be submitted for approval to Professor O'Neill.

Foreign Language Requirement.—If subjects 15a2 or 15b? be not presented for matriculation, French AB or German AB must be taken in the first year. Students who have credit for six units of French or German should either (1) take French CD or German CD, or (2) acquire, before the junior year, a sufficient reading reading knowledge of French or German to enable them to read scientific articles, particularly in the field of chemistry, with reasonable ease and understanding; an examination to test this proficiency will be given by the department of chemistry.

Requirement for Junior Standing.-A student will not ordinarily be permitted to enter upon the third year of work unless the matriculation and the language requirements are completed.

Honor Students.-Students who in the first two years of their college work have received the grade of 1 or 2 in 48 units of accepted courses will receive honorable mention with junior standing. These students are entitled and urged to enter as candidates for honors. The Committee on Candidates for Honors of the College of Chemistry will determine what students shall remain in the honor-group and what students shall be promoted thereto. Candidates who, in the judgment of the Faculty, display marked superiority in scholarship, receive the special distinction of highest honors. The list of students upon whom honors, and highest honors, are conferred, with mention of their major department, appears in the annual Commencement programme. Further information for honor-students will be found in the Announcement of Courses.

Note.—Due to the establishment at the University of a unit of the Students' Army Training Corps, the curricula announced below (and in particular the statements concerning prescribed work in military science and tactics) are subject to revision for the year 1918–19.
