Whereas the above bounden A. B. did on the day of last (or instant) fix up a paper writing in the secretary's office at Quebec, felting forth that he intended to leave the province, after thirty days from the date thereof, but his bufiness requiring that he fhould depart before that period, and willing that his creditors who might be inclined to oppose his departure. Should be fecured the payment of their debts, has procured the said. to be his fureties for the same, The CONDITION therefore of the above obligation is such, that if the faid A. B. and the faidor one of them, their or one of their heirs, executors or administrators, shall pay or cause to be paid to all the creditors of the said A. B.. who may have already entered their Caveats in the faid office against the granting him a pafs. for his departure

, as well as all those who shall unthin the remainder of the said thirty days. From the time of his fixing up the faid paper writing, lodge an affidavit of debt against him, in the faid office, or caused them to be paid the money which upon trial, and by the judgment of any court of record in this province, shall appear to be due to them, together with costs of fuit ; then the above obligation to be. void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

AN ORDINANCE
To empower the commillioners of the peace to regulate the police of the

towns of Quebec and Monireal, for a limited time.
WHEN

HEREAS the forming a permanent police for the towns of Quebec and Mon

treal, seems impracticable in the prefent advanced state of this feflion, and it is necessary that a temporary remedy be applied to the inconveniencies which might result from the want of foune fixed regulations in that respect : It is enacted by his

excellency the captain general and governor in chief of this province, by and with Commil.oners' the advice and content of the legillative council of the same, that the commissioners of the peace of the peace for this province, are authorized and required in their General Quarter fius cracowered Seffions of the peace for the respective districts of Quebec and Montreal, to make such to regnate the puiice of the

ARAISSANT impossible, le tems de la séance étant trop avancé, de ftatuer une

II. If any person in either of the said towns shall refuse to obey any of the rules or orders fo to be made by the faid commissioners of the peace, after the same shall have been proclaimed by the bell-man as aforesaid ; such person shall for every refu

fal forfeit the sum which in every such rule or order shall be specified (provided the !!ow to be reco- same thall not exceed the sum of Forty shillings) to be recovered, if sued for within

fifteen days from the time of such refusal, by information before any one commilsioner of the peace, who is hereby authorized and requird to hear and determine the fame in a summary manner, upon the oath of one credible witness, (being fome cther than the informer) and to be levied by warrant under his hand to leize and sell the goods of the offender, one moiety whereof shall belong to the King's Majesty, and the other moiety to the person who shall sue for the fame.

III. In cases where any person shall refuse to do, or cause to by done, any work workers and big regarding the police, which by any such rule or order of the said commissioners of the

peace

he may be required to do, it shall and may be lawful for the commissioner beoners, to pay the fore whom the information shall have been brought, to employ any other person, to

do that work in his stead, for such reasonable price as he shall agree upon; and the person who shall have disobeyed such rule or order by refusing or neglecting to do the said work shall, over and above the penalty mentioned in the second article, be obliged to pay to the person who shall have done the same, the price agreed to be paid him by the said commissioner; to be levied, in default of payment, in the same manner as the laid penalty is by the said article directed to be levied.

IV. This ordinance is to remain in force only during the term of two years from to be in force for the time of the publication thereof,
