Entomological Laboratories. The elementary laboratory is equipped with the usual apparatus such as microscopes, microtomes, breeding cages, etc., and the research laboratories have been well equipped for many lines of investigation.

Bacteriology and Veterinary Science. The laboratories for instruction and investigation in bacteriology and for the study of diseases of live stock are accommodated in a structure adjoining the Agricultural Building. This laboratory contains microscopic equipment sufficient to accommodate eight students at a time.

Plant Pathology. Facilities for laboratory instruction and investigation in plant diseases are at present provided in the Botany Building, where the necessary equipment is available for this purpose.

Dairy Husbandry. For a Dairy School four of the basement rooms in the Agricultural Building have been set apart. The equipment consists of a complete outfit of machinery and appliances for practical instruction in making butter and cheese; also in testing milk and its products by the Babcock method. There is a cold-storage room, fitted with a refrigerating plant, having a cooling capacity of one ton of ice. The machinery is run by a five-horse power motor. Laboratory and desk room is provided for thirty-six students. A barn has been constructed, a herd established, and experimental work in feeding and breeding animals, which our State now so greatly needs, is fully under way. present five stations at which this work is prosecuted, namely:

The Experiment Station and Sub-Stations of the College of Agriculture make provision for systematic experimentation in the culture of the various farm products of California. The investigations include the introduction and testing of new varieties, the study of diseases of plants and animals, the repression of animal and vegetable parasites, etc. Samples sent for examination are analyzed or tested, and reported upon by letter as rapidly as the examination can be completed. The entire technical staff of the department takes part in the experimental work. There are at present five stations at which this work is prosecuted.

The Central Station at Berkeley, organized in the year 1875, from which all work connected with the various sub-stations is directed, where all laboratory investigations are made, and whence all official communications are sent. Portions of the University grounds are set apart for experimental culture.

Two Outlying Culture Sub-Stations, intended mainly for culture experiments in the several distinct climatic regions of the State. These are: (1) The San Joaquin Valley Sub-Station, near Tulare, Tulare County; (2) The Southern California Sub-Station, on the Chino Ranch, between Chino and Pomona, Los Angeles County.

Two Forestry Stations, one at Santa Monica, Los Angeles County; the other near Chico, Butte County. The management of these stations was transferred to the University by the State Legislature in 1893. They are used for the experimental growing of trees likely to be of practical value in forestry in this State.

A Temporary Station for the study of the codling moth at Watsonville was maintained during the past year and will probably be continued the coming season.

Viticultural Stations for experimentation with phylloxeraresistant vines have been established at five vineyards near Fresno; and also, in coöperation with the United States Department of Agriculture, at Fresno, Napa, Livermore, Mountain View, Lodi, Sonoma, Geyserville, and Cucamonga.

The California Poultry Experiment Station created by Act of the Legislature in 1903, is located at Petaluma, Sonoma County.

Experiment Station Publications. The Annual Report and the Bulletins on important farm topics which are published from time to time are sent free of charge to all citizens of the State who request that their names be placed on the mailing list.

HARMON GYMNASIUM.

The Gymnasium, presented to the University by the late A. K. P. Harmon, is well equipped, and provides all the students with opportunities for physical culture. Besides the main hall and athletic quarters, there are fifty-five dressing-rooms, sixty-three shower-baths, and seven hundred lockers for the use of the students.

The exercises in the gymnasium are conducted systematically under the supervision of the Professor of Physical Culture.

HEARST HALL.

Hearst Hall was presented to the University by Mrs. Phoebe A. IIearst for a Women's Gymnasium. It contains the very best of modern equipment, with special facilities to overcome deformities or correct physical defects. In a separate building, and con
