The courses of the Preparatory School prepare students for the Freshman class in the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Agriculture, the College of Mechanical Engineering, the Normal School, and the School of Mines.

ADMISSION.

Students will be admitted to the first year of the Preparatory School on passing a satisfactory examination in the following studies:

Arithmetic-Wentworth and Hill's Complete Arithmetic, or

its equivalent.

English Grammar-Reed and Kellogg's Higher Lessons in English, or its equivalent.

Descriptive and Physical Geography-Frye's Descriptive Geography, or Redway's Normal Method, or their equivalent. Physiology-Martin's Human Body (briefer course), or its

equivalent.

Grades in the above may be presented, and, if satisfactory to the Faculty, the candidate may be excused from the examinations.

COURSES OF STUDY.

The work in preparation for the Freshman class in the College of Liberal Arts and Normal School is equivalent to four years of high school training; the requirements for admission to the technical schools is the equivalent of three years of high school training, including shop work and drawing. It is possible, however, for a student who has been well prepared and has his entire time for study to complete the Preparatory and College of Liberal Arts courses in seven years, or the Preparatory and Technical courses in six years.

Students in the Scientific course may substitute French IV, V, VI, and Mathematics VII, VIII, IX, for Latin I, II, III, IV, V, VI. Students making this substitution will elect additional studies in the Freshman and Sophomore years, and will receive the degree of B. S. on graduation from the Scientific course.

No student will be allowed to take less than fifteen or more than eighteen hours of recitations per week without the consent of the Faculty.

THE COMMERCIAL PREPARATORY COURSE.

A four years' course, consisting of preparatory and business studies, is offered, whereby a student may secure a training for business and at the same time prepare for the Freshman year of the College of Liberal Arts. For an outline of this course, see, under The School of Commerce, pages 97-99.
