T IS not often that THE QUARTERLY publishes an article not dealing directly with fraternity matters but there is an article by Dr. Mann appearing in this issue which is well worthy of publication in any periodical. The frequency of syphilis is well known among the medical profession, as is also the frequency of innocent transmission. We are only too prone to minimize this danger. As medical men we owe it to our community and to humanity to let these facts be known. The profession is too hesitant to give advice as to this evil and it is high time that we change our attitude in this matter and encourage free discussion.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

[ocr errors]

HERE were two real definite forward steps taken at the convention. The first was the provision authorizing the establishment of Alumni Associations in any city or district having a sufficient number of alumni. The minimum. number of men necessary to form an Alumni Association is ten. These organizations have all the rights and privileges of an undergraduate chapter except as to the initiation of new members. Every member will receive THE QUARTERLY as long as he is a member of the Association. This plan means a liver and better organized alumni body and this means better coöperation between active and alumni members. This coöperation will soon be expressed in terms of new chapter-houses. Let the B IIs in every city organize, and let each chapter see that their own alumni are informed of this new departure and that they become members of their nearest alumni organization.

T

DISTRICT CONVENTION

HIS is a second accomplishment which has long been near the heart of the Editor. These conventions are to be held on alternate years with the National Convention. Each province is to hold its own convention. The assembly is to be entertained alternating by the various chapters composing the province. Each chapter is to be entitled to one delegate, and the Praetor of the province is to be the presiding officer. There is no doubt that these conventions will produce much closer union between our chapters. The distance between chapters of a province are short and we can expect a relatively large attendance. The first conventions will be held next spring so each chapter should begin to think over whether they wish to be hosts in their particular province and make plans accordingly.
