A discussion followed regarding the next national convention.

Discussion of alumni chapters and their relation and value to the fraternity at large and to the individual chapters.

This was followed by a consideration of the standing of the chapters in the province, their activities, data concerning the schools at which they are situated, and other medical fraternities at their schools.

Beta: University of Michigan. Medical attendance is 400, pre-medical 150, chapter initiates men during second year. Loses some men who go to Detroit, Columbia, and Cincinnati. Are five medical fraternities at school. Nu Sigma Nu, A. K. K., Phi Rho Sigma, Phi Chi, and Phi Beta Pi. All own their own homes. Phi Beta Pi chapter intends to get a new home. Present home paid for with the exception of $500. Have two honorary members, three men on faculty. Provide for one dance per month. Pay Building Association $80 rent per month. House valued at $10,000. Alumni Association consists of all the alumni of the chapter. Have chapter rules prohibiting liquor and gambling, they are enforced quite strictly. Bids are kept open for a short time if this is desired. Delta: Rush Medical College in affiliation with the University of Chicago. Attendance at Rush, 250, at U. of C. 180. Have pledged several pre-medics, but don't initiate them until in the medical school. Six fraternities at Rush: Phi Beta Pi, Nu Sigma Nu, A. K. K., Phi Rho Sigma, Phi Chi, Alpha Phi Sigma *Reported 2:00 P. M. May 16.

(Jewish). Have five or six on faculty at U. of C., three or four in Rush. Is little advantage having them at Rush. Pay $90 rent per month, can accommodate 22 men, usually have 16 to 18 in house. Chapter does not run table, but has board at house managed entirely by competent cook. In good financial condition with balance of $1,200 to $1,500. Many men affiliated from Wisconsin and Missouri. Lose few men. About one social event each quarter. School will move into new buildings on South Side in about three years, and chapter will then buy house. Lose less than 5% of initiates. Rushing asset sound financially and scholastically, has good library and outlines of courses. Of nine who wrote Cook County Hospital competitive examination eight placed. Tuition $60 per quarter. There are only two full-time men on faculty at Rush, all are at the U. of C. No liquor, gambling, or unchaperoned women in the house. Bids kept open for short time if desired.

Theta: Northwestern University. Attendance in medical school about 300 with about 90 seniors, 80 juniors, 50 sophomores, and 50 freshmen. Do not pledge pre-medics. Members of chapter well distributed among all classes in school. Have some affiliates in junior class from Missouri, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Nearly 100% of men finish school and some in other schools. Fraternities represented: Nu Sigma Nu, Phi Rho Sigma, A. K. K., Alpha Phi Sigma (Jewish). Have quite a number on faculty, several clinicians. Are after others at present. Pay $100 rent per month, and can accommodate 22 men. Run own table. Social activities and atheltics do not play an important part in life of men. Have dance in house occasionally. Have house rules prohibiting liquor, gambling, and unchaperoned women. Rushing asset: Standing of national fraternity and local chapter and faculty members since Phi Beta Pi has more than any other fraternity in first two years. A. K. K. has most clinicians. Bids extended if desired. Tuition $190 per annum, is an endowed school. Don't own house because rent is low and property depreciating.

Iota: University of Illinois. Attendance in medical school about 300. Freshman class largest, others nearly uniform. Pledge very few pre-medics but do entertain men from Champaign and watch them for future pledging. A. K. K. pledge at Champaign. Fraternities represented are Nu Sigma Nu, A. K. K., Phi Rho Sigma, Phi Chi. Chapter membership 30 to 35, others about same with exception of Phi Rho, whose membership is smaller. Have several members on faculty of first two years, quite a number of clinicians. Rent house for $125 per month. Can accommodate 22 to 24 men. Run their own table. Pay room rent nine months, and pay house rent with surplus in treasury. Not attempting to buy house because value of property is depreciating. Get some affiliates from Wisconsin, Missouri, and Kentucky. Tuition $160-$170 per year. Is a state university. Bids usually not kept open. Rules prohibit liquor, gambling, and unchaperoned women in the house.

Kappa: Detroit College of Medicine and Surgery. About 100 attendance with 36 juniors, 50 sophomores, 21 freshmen, with outlook for greater enrollment in future. Chapter membership 21 with 8 juniors, 11 sophomores, 2 fresh

men. Phi Beta Pi, Nu Sigma Nu, Phi Rho, and Alpha Phi Sigma in school. Phi Chi chapter dead. Pre-medic work at Albion College, Ferris, and Central High. Only a few enter the junior class. Do not pledge pre-medics. No home because membership is small, rent high, brothers live in city and work in hospitals. No fraternity has a house. Have three or four members on faculty first two years, more than other fraternities in last two. Tuition $150 per annum. School formerly supported by Alumni Association. State legislature has now taken it over. Meeting adjourned at 12:30 P. M.

Omicron: Indiana University. School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana. Last three years of medicine are taken at Indianapolis. Membership of chapter 30 to 40 men. Fraternities represented are Phi Beta Pi, Phi Rho Sigma, Nu Sigma Nu, Phi Chi. No chapters have house since many men live at hospitals. Phi Beta Pi has few men on faculty, Nu Sigma Nu and Phi Chi have most. Is a state school, has some endowment. Tuition $130. Rushing consists simply in bidding men since there usually is a longstanding mutual acquaintanceship. Men take first two years of work at Bloomington.

Alpha Zeta: Indiana University, School of Medicine, Bloomington, Indiana. Pre-medical work and first year of medical work taken at Bloomington. Attendance about 100 pre-medics in each class, 80 in first year of medicine. Strong local chapter. Social life is an important and a necessary factor in chapter's existence. Prospective pledges watched in high school, and entertained at house when possible. Have faculty members present when rushing men, and cite strength of national fraternity and local chapter to rushees. Lose few men after initiation. Other fraternities represented are Nu Sigma Nu, Phi Chi, Phi Rho. Have large number of faculty men. Rent house at $60 per month. Run table. No personal bills may exceed $75. House rules prohibit gambling, liquor, and unchaperoned women. Tuition $130 per annum. School is part of State University. Chapter recently purchased new house. Largest and most beautiful in city. Chapter well supported by State Alumni Association.

Alpha Epsilon: Marquette University. Attendance is 70 students in three upper classes, seniors having graduated, juniors 15, sophomores 26, freshmen 30. Larger enrollment expected in future. Chapter has six freshmen which is as many as any of the others have. Phi Beta Pi, Phi Rho Sigma, and A. K. K. represented at Marquette. All chapters have approximately the same number of men.
