1831 d promover con ellas el nombramiento de Ministros, ó Ajentes bastante autorizados, para la formacion de una Asamblea Jeneral Américana, que podrá reunirse en Méjico, ó en el punto que acordare la mayoria de los Gobiernos de dichas nuevas Repúblicas.

XV. Las Partes Contratantes se comprometen solemnemente á que las negociaciones que puedan entablarse entre la Corte de Madrid Ꭹ cualesquiera de ellas, con el objeto de asegurar la independencia y la paz, incluyan y comprendan igualmente los intereses á este respecto tanto de Chile como de Méjico. Y se compromoten tambien á influir con las otras Repúblicas de América antes sujetas á la dominacion Española, para que en

su caso obren de la misma manera.

XVI. La duracion de este Tratado será por el término de 10 años, contados desde el dia en que se cambien las Ratificaciones respectivas; si no se convinieren ambas Partes Contratantes en variarlo, ó reformarlo ántes del dicho término.

XVII. El presente Tratado será ratificado, las Ratificaciones serán cambiadas en el termino de 12 meses, ó ántes si fuere posible.

En fé de lo cual, los respectivos Plenipotenciarios lo han firmado y sellado con sus Sellos respectivos.

Articulo adicional.

Se declara que cuando en los Articulos VIII, IX, y X, de este Tratado se hace uso de la espresion Nacion mas favorecida, no es la intencion, que esta espresion comprenda en Chile aquellos favores ó particulares ventajas que por Tratados, ó Convenciones especiales se hayan estipulado, ó se estipularen en adelante, entre dicha República de Chile y cualquiera Gobierno de los Paises de la lengua Española, con quienes hasta el año de 1810, for

Contracting Parties engage to further, in conjunction 1831 with them, the appointment of duly empowered Ministers or Agents, for the formation of a General American Assembly, to meet at Mexico, or at any other place that may be determined upon by the majority of the Governments of the aforesaid new Republics.

XV. The Contracting Parties solemnly engage, that the negotiations which may be entered into with the Court of Madrid or any other whatsoever, having for object the securing of independence and peace, shall equally include and comprehend the interests both of Chili and Mexico. And they likewise engage to use all their influence with the other Republics of America which were formerly under the domination of Spain, to act, as far as regards themselves, in the

same manner.

XVI. The duration of this Treaty shall be for the term of 10 years, reckoning from the day on which the respective Ratifications are exchanged; unless both Parties shall agree to alter or improve it before the expiration of the said period.

XVII. The present Treaty shall be ratified and the Ratifications} thereof exchanged within the space of 12 months, or sooner if possible.

In faith of which the respective Plenipotentiaries have signed it, and sealed it with their respective Seals.

Given at the Federal City of Mexico, on the 7th day of March, in the year of our Lord 1831.

It is declared that the expression "most favoured Nation," employed in Articles VIII, IX, and X, of this Treaty, is not to be understood in Chili, as comprehending those favors or particular advantages which have been already, or may hereafter be, stipulated for by Treaties or Special Conventions between the said Republic of Chili, and any other Government of the Countries speaking the Spanish language, with which up to the year 1810, it formed one and the
