In the following recapitulation we have brought together the different articles in each of the 17 cities in April and in October, and present an average retail price per basis for all of the cities considered. For instance, it is seen that in April, 1904, the average price of flour (bread) was based upon that sold in barrels to the number of 1,536, and in October upon 1,110 barrels similarly sold. The average for the State in April, 1904, was $6.371 per barrel, and in October, 1904, $7.626 per barrel. This April average was exceeded in the cities of Fall River, Fitchburg, Gloucester, Haverhill, Holyoke, Lowell, New Bedford, Salem, and needs no further introduction or analysis. |
