Stran 44 - Thomson describes it as a mineral of " a light grayish yellow colour, consisting of a congeries of very small rounded grains, easily separable from each other, and not larger than small grains of sand. These grains are translucent, and some of them indeed transparent. The lustre of the transparent grains is splendent ; that of the translucent grains shining. The lustre is inclining to resinous. The grains are rounded, but when examined with the microscope, they seem to consist of imperfect crystals....
Stran 322 - This species infests a great variety of plants, and is to be found throughout our country from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico and from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
Stran 82 - Nutallite in my possession, are eight-sided prisms, which cleave in the direction of the faces of a right square prism. The colour is white ; in some parts of the crystal yellowish, in others bluish or greenish. The yellowish-white parts of the crystal are transparent ; the bluish nearly opaque ; showing evidently the presence of some foreign matter. Streak white. Lustre vitreous. Easily scratches by the knife. Specific gravity in different specimens was found to vary from 2.748 to 2.758.
Stran 50 - ... we read (LC p. 50,) that the mineral received by him from " Mr. Nuttall, (from Bolton, Mass.) bears so much resemblance to the Picrosmine of Hadinger, both in character and composition, that he strongly suspects the two things to be mere varieties. Stran 67 - ... amorphous compact stone, through which a few scales of mica are scattered, having much the appearance of claystone ; but softer. Fracture earthy. Colour light-greyish blue. Stran 45 - ... inclining to resinous. The grains are rounded, but when examined with the microscope, they seem to consist of imperfect crystals. The texture before a powerful magnifier seems foliated ; but the grains are so small, that it is not easy to make out its true texture with accuracy. Specific gravity, 3.201. " Easily crushed to powder by the nail of the finger. It is therefore soft. It does not scratch calcareous spar.
