(7.) Locking Device. Magnetic, pneumatic or lead-rivet.

:

The approval is subject to the further conditions :-
(i) That the strength of material and attachments throughout the lamp
is not less than in the samples submitted for the official tests on
15th August, 1919.

(ii) That the lamp shall be capable of maintaining a light of not less
than 0.30 as determined by a pentane standard all round in a
horizontal plane throughout a period of not less than 10 hours.
(iii) That the lamp has been made at the works of Messrs. E. Thomas
and Williams, Limited, at Aberdare.

(iv) That the lamp shall have marked upon it its name and the name of
the maker.

(v) That the lamp shall be used by officials only

(b) Porch and Roadway Lamp.

Porch Safety Lamp, Type F1.

The Porch Safety Lamp, Type F 1, the general design of which is shown in Plate 3, is a double-gauze, flame, oil-lamp. It consists of the following essential parts:

(1.) Bonnet or Shield of seamless or rivetted steel, with a separate securelyfastened crown, furnished with outlet holes round the top: provided that the lower edges of the holes are not less than -inch above the top of the outer gauze.

(2.) Middle Ring of brass, steel or iron, rivetted to the bonnet, provided with 6 vertical air-inlet slots of a total area not exceeding 2 square inches.

Pillars of brass, steel or iron, 4 or more so arranged that a straight line touching the outer edges of adjacent pillars does not touch the glass.

(3.) Gauzes of not less than 28 S.W.G. steel wire, 784 meshes to the square inch, with secure flame-tight double-folded lap seams, formed to fit flanges of the inner and outer base rings and so secured to the same by punch indentations or otherwise as to make strong and flame-tight joints.

(4.) Glass of an approved type, cylindrical in form, within the dimension limits and bearing one of the size marks specified below, and furnished with top and bottom asbestos washers to ensure flame-tight joints with the gauzes and retaining ring.

Size-mark. 89-96 or 89-80.

(5.) Glass Retaining Ring of brass, screw-threaded to fit the bottom ring.

(6.) Oil-Vessel. Fitted with a flat 1 to 14 inch single or double-wick burner of capacity sufficient to provide the required light for the required time as specified below.

(7.) Locking-device. A lead-rivet lock of approved design.

The Approval is subject to the further conditions :

(i) That the strength of material and attachments throughout the lamp is not less than in the samples submitted for the official tests on 14th April, 1919.
