107B. Practical Conduct of Playground Activities. Details of organization and direction with reference to educational, moral, athletic, dramatic and social phases. Special emphasis will be given to the technique of group, team and individual games; also to the organization and conduct of leagues, meets, pageants and daily routine work. Demonstration and actual conduct of games and leagues will be carried on at the Play Center.

Associate Professor KLEEBERGER and STAFF. Students may work under supervision, as assistants in the playground, campfire and scouting activities of Oakland and Berkeley. Men may serve also in the athletic and gymnastic activities of the men's department at the University. Conferences will be held with the instructors in charge of the assigned activities, and reports of the work done will be submitted at the end of each half-year. Hours to be arranged.

LOWER DIVISION COURSES

Prescribed Courses. The requirement for the junior certificate includes two hours of work during the freshman year, two hours of work during the sophomore year, and the ability to swim fifty yards. A physical examination is given to all entering students at the time of the medical examination in August, and freshmen are assigned according to general physical condition to courses 52A-52B, 53A-53в, or 54A-54B. Students entering in January will, if their physical condition permits, be assigned to Section X of 52A-52B. Completion of any of these courses with its sophomore continuation will satisfy the requirement for the junior certificate. However, courses 52A-52B, 52c-52D are prerequisite to all upper division work in the department.

UPPER DIVISION COURSES

Students who choose physical education as a major subject must have credit for at least 3 units in chemistry, for Physiology 1, for Hygiene 3, and Physical Education 52A-52B and 52c-52D. In addition to the above requirements, students must have a fair degree of motor control and a sense of rhythm and must be without organic disease or functional disorder.

The major must include the following courses: In the department of Physical Education for men, course 100A; in the department of Anatomy, course 102; and in this department, courses 165, 166, and 175.

All theoretical courses in the department of Physical Education for Women are open to men; all theoretical courses in the department of Physical Education for Men are open as elective courses to women.

INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS

Candidates for the recommendation for the teacher's certificate offering Physical Education as a major subject, are advised to confer with this department as early as possible in the college course regarding the choice of subjects in this and in allied departments.
