IMPORTANce of undERSTANDING THE LAWS OF

SEXUAL HEALTH AND VIGOR.

It then becomes a matter of great importance to thoroughly understand this wonderful sexual system and to know how to care for it, and to develop its highest possible state of health and vigor, and to always remember that its health is governed by Nature's great laws just the same as is the health of brain, heart, lungs or stomach. When we violate the laws governing the health of the lungs by breathing impure air, for example, we suffer from headaches and other discomforts; and if the air is very bad, such as is sometimes found in mines and wells, death is caused almost instantly. If we violate the laws of digestion by eating unwholesome food, or indigestible things, we pay the penalty by suffering from colic, cramps, cholera morbus or some other bad feeling. So it is with the sexual system. If we violate the laws of its health we must pay the penalty just the same.

APPROACH OF SEXUAL WEAKNESS INSIDIOUS AND
SELDOM SUSPECTED.

There is usually one great difference, however; when we violate the laws of health that govern the lungs, stomach, bowels, and many other organs, the penalty is often paid by severe suffering

very soon after the violation; while with the sexual system, the suffering usually comes on so slow and insidiously, and its causes and indications are so vaguely understood by most people, that the mental and physical powers are often greatly impaired before the victim is aware of the dreadful condition to which he is fast approaching. Indeed, it often happens that the constitution is so greatly injured before the cause is discovered, that it is many months and even years before the most careful and persistent treatment can restore the normal health and vigor, and sometimes the entire cure is never effected.

TRUE SEXUAL SCIENCE FAR DIFFERENT FROM THE
VULGAR IDEAS OF THE IGNORANT.

Let us then more closely investigate the secrets of this great sexual system, and you will better understand its importance, and will more fully appreciate what has already been told you. In school you have studied the general anatomy and physiology of the human body, together with the principle laws of health. If you learned your lessons well you have gained a fund of valuable knowledge; but the department of the body which we now propose to investigate, is not usually studied in school, because it is not considered proper for boys and girls

to study it together. Besides this, a great many people think that boys and girls should know as little as possible about this part of the body. The author once knew a country school teacher who discovered that many of his pupils were greatly injuring themselves by violating the health laws of their sexual systems, and he kindly explained this to several of the boys. A few appreciated his kindness, but the greater number did not; and many of their parents and friends became angry and treated the teacher in a shameful manner supposing that he had done something very censurable. Many people think there is something very impure and vulgar about the sexual organs. When they speak of them, they do so with a sneaking, mean look and manner, and if they are parents they try to keep their children as ignorant as possible regarding these organs, supposing that in ignorance only can there be inno

cence.

IGNORANCE REGARDING THESE ORGANS.

The result is, all that many of you think you know about the sexual organs is what you have learned from older boys and servants and other ignorant persons. Usually this is worse than knowing nothing at all, because the greater part of it is absolutely false and leads you to conclusions that

will be the cause of much misery in the future if you do not learn the truth before it is too late.

If you who have been the victims of such false teaching will kindiy endeavor to divest your minds of all notions of vulgarity as being necessarily connected with a discussion of the sexual organs, it will aid you in acquiring more common sense, practical, scientific information. When you know more about this part of the body, you will see more plainly that the sexual organs are naturally just as clean and pure as other parts of the body. It is their abuse, not their right use that can in any sense render them vulgar. These organs are also called the organs of reproduction, because it is through their action that men and women are reproduced. In other words, it is by these organs that little babies begin their existence and are born into the world. Were it not for these organs, no more little babies could be born, and when all of the people who now live should die, there would be nobody in the world. How dreary and desolate that would be. A world without anybody in it.

In the next chapter, we will teach you more about reproduction, and will describe part of the organs by which it is accomplished.

CHAPTER II.

REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS OF THE MALE.

All animals and plants can reproduce themselves. The oak tree reproduces itself by bearing acorns, which fall to the ground and become covered with leaves and earth where the sunshine and warm rains cause them to sprout, take root, and grow into other oak trees. The chestnut tree reproduces itself by bearing chestnuts; the walnut tree, by bearing walnuts; the apple tree, by bearing apples with seeds in them; the corn stalk by bearing seeds of corn; pea and bean vines, by bearing peas and beans, and flowering plants by bearing flower seeds.

Does there seem to be anything vulgar in talking about trees and flowers reproducing themselves, and in studying about the organs or means by which this reproduction is accomplished? Then, how can it be vulgar to study about men and women reproducing themselves? Are not men and women and little babies just as important as trees and flowers?
