This volume and the succeeding volumes are a continuation of the Mining Reports, volumes 1-16 published by the same firm and edited by the same compiler now in association with Emilio D. DeSoto of the same bar. The sixteenth volume was printed in 1894. The present volume contains cases prior to that date which had been omitted and new cases into 1895, to be followed by the decisions handed down in the following years to date of copyright. The only material change in the order of printing is that the cases in this and succeeding volumes follow chronologically under a specific head for each case instead of being grouped under topics as in the original issue. It is intended to supplement the old with the new volumes so as to make but one set of Reports, the whole intended to be a substantial reprint of all the mining cases of substantial benefit to the profession, and those not printed are cited in the notes appended to the printed cases. By the present chronological system the set can be and is intended to be continued indefinitely as the accumulation of decisions may warrant the publication of further vol umes.
