Stran 346 - An adjudication is final and conclusive, not only as to the matter actually determined, but as to every other matter which the parties might have litigated, and have had decided as incident to or essentially connected with the subject-matter of the litigation, and every matter coming within the legitimate purview of the original action, both in respect to matters of claim and of defense": Freeman on Judgments, sec.
Stran 100 - The legislatures of those districts or new states shall never interfere with the primary disposal of the soil by the United States in Congress assembled, nor with any regulations Congress may find necessary for securing the title in such soil to the bona fide purchasers. No tax shall be imposed" on lands the property of the United States; and in no case shall non-resident proprietors be taxed higher than residents.
Stran 537 - A judgment that the defendant pay a fine may also direct that he be imprisoned until the fine be satisfied ; specifying the extent of the imprisonment, which cannot exceed one day for every one dollar of the fine.
