CHAPTER 459.

AN ACT CONCERNING THE EMPLOYMENT OF VETERANS
IN PUBLIC SERVICE.

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. In every public department and upon all public works of this state, any honorably discharged soldier, sailor or marine who served in the army or navy of the United States during the civil war, Spanish-American war, Philippine insurrection, China relief expedition or world war, and who, having been disabled in service, has been rehabilitated by the federal government and trained vocationally, and at the time of his application for employment is a qualified elector of this state, shall be preferred for appointment and employment. Age, loss of limb or · other physical impairment, which does not in fact incapacitate, shall not disqualify such veteran, if he possesses the other requisite qualifications.

SEC. 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage, and all acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.

CHAPTER 460.

AN ACT PERMITTING THE RECEIVING, FILING AND
INDEXING OF LIENS FOR TAXES OWING TO THE
UNITED STATES BEING AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF
AND IN ADDITION TO CHAPTER 30I OF THE GENERAL
LAWS, ENTITLED "OF LIENS."

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. Chapter 301 of the general laws, entitled "Of liens" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

"Sec. 33. It shall be the duty of the recorder of deeds or the city or town clerk, having custody of the land records, in the several cities and towns in this state, to receive, file and index any and all notices of liens in favor of the United States for taxes due the United States, or any copies thereof duly certified by the collector of internal revenue in whose district the state of Rhode Island is situated, or by any other officer having legal custody of the records of such notices of liens, with like effect as by existing law he is required to receive and record liens, deeds, and conveyances."

SEC. 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage, and all laws and parts of laws inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.

ACT TO SAVE THE LEGISLATION OF JANUARY H 1035.
SESSION, 1923.

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. All the laws passed at this January session of the general assembly in the year 1923, shall be and remain in full force and effect, notwithstanding the enactment of the General Laws of 1923, and from and after the thirty-first day of December, 1923, such laws passed at this January session, 1923, shall be taken and deemed to be in amendment of or in addition to the General Laws of 1923.

SEC. 2. This act shall take effect from and after its passage.

AN ACT TO CONDEMN CERTAIN LAND BY THE STATE FOR
METROPOLITAN PARK PURPOSES.

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. The metropolitan park commission of Providence Plantations, on behalf of the state of Rhode Island, at any time, or from time to time, may take the lands and improvements thereon, and all the rights, easements and privileges hereinafter set forth, as embraced in the following description and boundaries, or any part or parts thereof, for any of the public purposes and uses specified in chapter 279 of the general laws, and of the several acts in amendment thereof or in addition thereto; the use of the same for such purposes being for the promotion of the public health and convenience, to wit:

All of those certain lots or parcels of land situated in the village of Pawtuxet, in the town of Warwick county of Kent, state of Rhode Island, together with all the improvements thereon, and all the rights, easements, and privileges appurtenant thereto, and in and to the streets and highways abutting thereon, as embraced within and in the following descriptions and boundaries; Parcel 1. Beginning at the intersection point formed by the northerly street line of Peck street, so marked on map herewith filed and the easterly street line of Main street, so marked on said map; thence running northeasterly along said. easterly line of Main street for a distance of one hundred thirty-one and 05/100 feet to a point; thence deflecting to the right at an angle of one hundred forty-three degrees, nine minutes and fortythree seconds and running southeasterly for a dis
