If you're interested in letters and getting better 'sketches' of some of the characters--this is a good book. You can tell there's a ton of effort in the research.

In the end, however, we don't get much history and without visuals it's hard to understand the military significance of what is going on.

I'd prefer a book with a more editorial bent, which is why I'm less of a fan. If you read 10 American History books, I'd include this. If you read one, probably less interesting.
