I have admired other books by this author more than this one. A narrower scope limiting the story to one year in the life of the US somehow made Washington's role seem smaller rather than grand as the author, presumably, meant to make it. Guess I was confused between wanting it to be more of a biography or more of a history so that it seemed not to be enough of either.
