As someone who has a recent interest in this part of history I cannot recommend this book enough. The author has managed, yet again, to build a world that I felt I could walk into and dig through the contents in the drawers. While keeping a larger view of the conflict, the author also defines very intimate characters that are even more charming because they are people who actually lived. I would most certainly give this book a read if you have any interest at all in this definitive year in history.
