David McCullough is a master storyteller, as his narrative is both intelligent and folk like at the same time. I have read much on the American Revolution, but even so, I still learned new things in this exciting book that focused mostly on the military history of 1776. My only wish is that there were some precise and clear battle maps added to the book. There were pictures of old British maps, but they were hard to decipher and make out. Otherwise, the book was excellent.
