McCoullough does a cool thing with this book: he makes it like a biography of our country by compiling masses of notes (1/5 of the book is bibiliography!) and putting them into a timeline. No easy feat for an entire year, a war, varied notes, sources, etc. As an American looking to learn about my country, and not just the bit I got in high school and promptly brain dumped, this book made me so proud of my country and our founders. From George Washington, what a stud, but also to the soldiers who didn't make it to see our country freed, but who stuck around when we needed them most (without shoes, without pay, without good leaders.). Read this if you are an American.
