Fantastic read. This is a wonderful introduction for those who may not be well-read on the events of the Revolutionary War. McCullough goes an exceptional job providing a compelling narrative of the events following the Declaration of Independence. Above all else it feels authentic, he doesn't pander with jingoistic tales of American heroism in the face of British treachery, but rather discusses the struggle the indecisive Washington has with his often drunk and not particularly patriotic troops, in the face of growing doubts among the troops. McCullough stops after the crossing of the Delaware, but nonetheless this gives anyone one with any interest on the subject the option to seek out other literature on the subject.
