I come to this book having read this author's sweeping bio of John Adams. I read on the back cover that this is a companion to that work. Yes. Likely it is. It feels like just the left over research from that book. There were great insights. The British side of the war. The inner workings of the trio of Washington, Greene, and Putnam. But it failed to drag me in. I wish it was a full account of the Revolutionary war rather then a hasty telling of the 1776 Washington involved campaigns. It reads like an appendix to a larger work and it feels unfinished.
