This could more aptly be titled 1775-1776 to cover the actual years in this book, but obviously 1776 is the significant date for most Americans. As always, David McCullough has done an excellent job with both research and the narrative. This is not a book about the entire American Revolutionary War, nor an examination in all the factors that led to it. His larger work, the biography of John Adams, covers that more thoroughly. This is just a snapshot of the beginning of the military resistance, to the battles of New York and culminating with the turning surprise attack at Trenton.
