Mr. McCullough, I love you. You know your history. It's my fault I don't like this book; I should not have listened to it on audiobook in the car. And maybe your fault a little for following the convention for history papers and making every sentence passive. It's easy to make war booooooring when X was happening to Y, not Q -ed Z. The points I did take from this book are that George III wasn't such a bad guy and that George Washington was a badass. At the end of the book, McCullough tries to play it coy by saying all the things Washington was not, but throughout the book he writes him as a smart and talented, if sometimes humble, man. McCullough is General Washington's biggest fanboy. I cannot blame him.

Carolyn No no no no nooooo not for audio book! This is fascinating when held in hard copy, sitting in a comfy chair with a cup of tea.

Petra on hiatus but getting better.Happy New 2024! I like history books and books about war, I just don't like history books about specific countries unless I already have a good idea of it first (countries I've lived in). I don't have hardly any idea at all of American history so although I keep thinking I "should" read it (and actually have it in the shop) I've never got round to it. Since your review includes the terrible B-word, I'm definitely not going to! Thank you for the out :-)
