Lite on history, heavy on drama. If you are interested in the subject matter but mainly read fiction than this might be a good gateway book to American history for you. Hardcore history readers may feel agitated wanting to add more to the discussion than what McCullough is offering. But those freaks should be used to feeling that way whenever the topic of history comes up in conversation.
