really liked it
bookshelves: biography, history

mccullough does an excellent job of portraying the devastations america, and particularly george washington faced, time and time again before they finally had some victories. the way washington is portrayed reminded me a lot of chief captain moroni - always persevering despite all odds, always fighting (not only physically but mentally and spiritually) for what he knew was right, even when he felt like he was the only one who really cared. i've gained a greater appreciation for what so many people went through, especially washington, to make this country free.

Linda hey son, great minds think alike. i just downloaded these cds from the library to listen to when we're back in china. i love david mccullough's perspective and am looking forward to this one.

Rustin Read it. I was surprised at how many soldiers kept deserting Washington's army because they weren't getting paid enough. Were the soldiers patriots or mercenaries? Probably some of each.
