it was ok

Sorry, I don't get it. I guess it's over my head.
Who writes a book called "1776" without focusing on the Declaration of Independence?
If the book is about the War for Independence, why stop in 1776 instead of in 1781?
McCullough says the book is about understanding why these events happened, but then isn't 1776 too late to start?

It's thickly detailed because it's filled with trivia about how this guy who was dressed like this told the other guy with the ugly face something that didn't matter anyway. So even though it has a limited focus it still remains shallow. Mr. Magoo, please put your glasses on. If the idea is to get a feel from a "narrative" for what it was like to live through those times, then I would rather read a reasonably accurate historical novel.
