it was ok

Well, this was a little disappointing. My expectation (a little irrational, in light of the title of the book) was a history of the Revolutionary War. It is, in fact, as the title suggests, a history of the Revolutionary War specific to what took place in 1776, leaving the events of the ensuing 5 years to other authors to explore.

I was getting close to the end of the book, wondering how in the world he was going to cover the rest of the war...and then the book ended abruptly, more or less on December 31, 1776. After I got over my surprise, I realized that I got what was advertised...a book about 1776. I don't know if I would have read it if I had known it was so abridged (so to speak) but I may have, since it is David McCullough, after all.

Well written, as are all his books.
