Hearing the stories and struggles of the Revolutionary War was deeply moving, and it is truly a miracle that the Colonial Army defeated the British. However, I am only rating this 3 stars because for the most part, the author would write lengthy passages of facts held together by disjointed and dense quotes. I would have liked a more interesting narrative to bring the facts to life (Sherri McInnes, who has read every book ever published, told me that Doris Kearns Goodwin does this much better than McCullough). For this reason, I didn't LOVE the book, but I am certainly glad I read it. I have gained a new appreciation for events, sacrifices, and individuals responsible for the birth of our country, and I would recommend it to anyone.

"Having a hard time with this one. McCullough is just randomly packing the book with disjointed quotes from obscure people one after the other. I am praying this gets better. It is a tough read so far."

"It has gotten a lot better once he started writing about real people and their stories rather than a large compilation of quotes about people's attitudes towards the war."
