This is a book about war, suffering, and tactics. While at times I felt like I was swimming in a sea of minutia, it was a good magnifying glass into the dramatic events that initiated the makings of the United States of America. As McCullough points out, this book is also about leadership, particularly the leadership qualities that George Washington had. You learn how indecisive, flawed and yet perfect a character he was to lead the rebel troops. I'm probably going to take a break from war tactic books, but as far as that genre goes, this was well written and thick with primary source material.
