Finally finished this after 3 years on my shelf. I love history, but I often get a little antsy when reading non-fiction. Still, I finished it on July 4th; the perfect time.

1776 gives an astoundingly accurate portrayal of our countries early moves toward independence. McCullough cites many primary sources throughout his text with gives as first hand an account as is possible today. If you don't have a better appreciation for being an American after reading this then you are crazy.
