A good treatment of the severity of challenges facing Washington's efforts to form an army and develop plans to fight the much better prepared and trained British (and hired Hession) forces. McCullough does a great job helping us understand Washington's doubts and concerns as he struggles to gain his confidence in the early months of the resistance.
