I enjoyed this book the way I enjoy a hearty vegetable lasagna, more righteous about the contents than the actually enjoyment of the meal. The book was well written and the author, who read the audiobook, was engaging. The pacing featured interesting and informative sojourns into historical characters I had no idea existed. The book, as whole, shook my naive surety of the founding of America. Despite this, by the end of the book, which was primarily about the first military actions of the rebel leader who would become our First Founding Father George Washington, I found myself anxious for the end. Having reached that end I am glad I read the book and I'm certainly feel like a better American for having read 1776.
